Historical landscape use in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands in prehistoric and medieval times

Programme for Applied Research and Development of National and Cultural Identity
NAKI (DF13P01OVV005)

The main objective of the project is to provide access to information on the historical landscape of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and to reconstruct its development in relation to natural environment. This territory was chosen as a peripheral zone, which is not so distinctly affected by the ongoing destruction of historical cultural landscape. However, here also the archaeological heritage gradually disappears, especially due to construction of large hydraulic engineering works, intensive agricultural activity and forestry.

The project was targeted at Vysočina Region. It comprises proposals of methods for documentation and protection of endangered archaeological heritage. The outputs are represented by a public web-based geographic information system and maps, certified methods, scientific publications and three exhibitions accompanied by electronic catalogues.

Participants in the project:

  • Masaryk University (coordinator)
  • Mendel University in Brno, Institute of Archaeology
  • Czech Academy of Sciences in Brno
  • Archaia Brno
