Research of neolithic roundel enclosures
Since 2012, the Department of Archaeology and Museology is taking part in research which is focused on the problem of Neolithic circular enclosures (roundels). The main aim is to implement modern methods of survey, archaeological excavations and documentation in order to obtain information on the appearance, constructional elements and, if possible, functional use of Neolithic circular enclosures.
Until today, six circular enclosures and their immediate neighbourhood were explored with the help of magnetometric survey. Not only the layouts of individual circular structures were detected, but, for example, the internal palisade and a layer attesting to anthropogenic activities inside the Milovice roundel, the external rampart enclosure of the Nové Bránice roundel, differentiated fills in ditches of the circular enclosure at Bíňovce, or a densely built-up area in the neighbourhood of the Šterusy roundel.
