Department of Archaeology and Museology regularly organises presentation events for general public. You can meet our students and experts all year long. You find the exact dates and venues in the News section.

Open day

  • is taking place in the mid-January
  • is primarily intended for future applicants for the entrance exam to Bachelor’s studies, but everybody can come and visit us
  • is usually taking place in premises of the Department of Archaeology and Museology, where you can find many professional posters, an information stand and leaflets about our disciplines, laboratories and research results
  • each department prepares a lecture on the possibilities, preconditions and contents of studies in particular disciplines, and members of the society of archaeology students SAMUNI also are present and will give you further information

Medieval Pottery Workshop

  • is taking place in the centre at Panská Lhota in June or July
  • is dedicated to traditional technologies of ceramic production, inclusive of wheel-throwing and firing of pottery in several types of historical firing devices
  • the experiment is accompanied by entertainment at campfire until the morning light

Rokštejn Castle Archaeological Summer School

  • is taking place in summer months
  • you will personally experience the excavations of a medieval castle by uncovering the layers, sieving and floating, sampling and documenting the contexts and finds on site

OPEN DAY

  • is taking place in the mid-September
  • the motto of the event sounds “Students for Students”
  • students present the best attractions of their disciplines, primarily to students in the last year of secondary schools

Researchers´ Night

  • is taking place at the turn of September and October
  • we present current research topics in a playful and accessible form, for all age groups

Night of the Scientists

  • is taking place early in October
  • the aim is to present to general public the scientific methods and equipment of individual disciplines

International Archaeology Day

  • is taking place in Brno and in the centre Panská Lhota near Jihlava on the third Saturday of October
  • our experts and students present our instrumental equipment and excavations, and you can literally get hands-on experience with archaeology. You can look below the ground surface with the help of a ground-penetrating radar or a magnetometer, you can go through the exhibition with a knowledgeable guide, you can try to find coin and jewellery copies with a metal detector, cook in a medieval oven or make an own ceramic beaker. The programme is interesting for all age categories of visitors.

Week of Humanities

  • is taking place in the mid-November
  • a cycle of specialised lectures on current development of knowledge in our disciplines is held for general public

MjUNI – Junior University

  • is taking place in December
  • we are preparing a learning program for both junior age categories

Our students from the SAMUNI society will gladly hold a lecture or make a presentation for you, matched with the age, interests and preferences. We make presentations on prehistory and archaeology for pupils in the first schools and lower secondary schools as separate events or as a part of teaching in following subjects: Fundaments of Civics and Natural Science, National History and Geography, and History. We prepare lectures both for secondary schools and for retirement homes.
