Museology – the way to protection and raising of public awareness of cultural-historical heritage

Project Museology – the way to protection and raising of public awareness of cultural-historical heritage forms activities of UNESCO Chair of Museology and World Heritage during 30. 6. 2015 – 30. 6. 2019 period.

The project represents conceptual course of the Chair in accordance with latest trends and needs of museological practice. It defines the Chair as a centre of professional support to museums and other cultural institutions and public authorities engaged in care for cultural heritage and raising the public awareness thereof. In connection with Resolution No. 43 approved by the UNESCO 37th General Conference it promotes the scientific role of museums by focusing on theoretical background of museology with direct implementation into daily museum practice in following areas – theory of museology and history of the museum phenomenon, museum exhibitions, museum pedagogy, museological care for archaeological heritage. The aim of the project is to establish a scientific and educational base focused on transfer of knowledge in the form of lectures, seminars, internships, specialised publications and other forms of mentoring.

Open Round Table of Museology is academic meeting of students and teachers of Brno Museology, Masaryk University and students and teachers of museological courses of University of Graz. Project organized from 2016 by UNESCO Chair of Museology and World Heritage in partnership with Institute of History, University of Graz, is supported by programme AKTION Czech Republic – Austria, science and education partnership.
The main goal is to activate students and museum professionals to discussion about selected topics of museology and museum work. Project is based on preparátory courses on both universities and reach its peak in inernational few days‘ meeting consisting of student workshops using critical reflection of theoretical sources. Important part of the Open Round Table of Museology meeting are also lectures of Graz and Brno museologists and the final round table discussion open to general public and museum professionals.

Interdisciplinary student internship in museum education

Interdisciplinary student internship in museum education focused on support of partnership of museum professionals in the field of museum pedagogy is europe unique aktivity of UNESCO Chair of Museology and World Heritage. It is our contribution to discussion about profession of museum educator and his partnership with other museum professionals.

Conception of these internships is realized in partnership with Brno City Museum. It is based on active participation of students of history, art history, archival science, archaeology, museology, aesthetics, education etc. and their familiarization with museum educator´s work. As future curators and other museum professionals after passing internship are students well prepared to colaboration with museum educator and are able also to realize educational programmes in museum and other cultural institutions.
