Data management planning for archaeologists

  • 5. listopadu 2021
    10:00 – 16:30

The goal of the workshop is to introduce the attendees to best practices for data management plans (DMP). DMP is becoming a necessary part of some project applications (e.g., ERC Scientific Council 2019). However, it is also useful on a smaller scale, for example in preparation of bachelor or master diploma theses, dissertation theses and projects.

In general, a DMP summarizes what data will be throughout the project collected and created, how will the data be analyzed, where will they be kept and what happens to them after the completion of the project, in what form will they be published, how will the data be licensed, etc. The explicit statement of such information helps to formalize the process and to identify in advance possible problems and weaknesses of chosen approaches.

The preparation of DMP is one of the ways how to start making your data FAIR, i.e. the data are findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (see e.g. Morselli et al. 2020 or more generally Wilkinson et al. 2016). It is the FAIR principles in approaching data and sharing data (Marwick et al. 2018) that allow for reproducibility of analyses and transparent research.

During the workshop you will be able to try to create a DMP using
Data Stewardship Wizard tool that will be in the near future supported by Open Science MUNI team.

What will you need?

A laptop.

What will you learn?

DMP terminology, how to create your own DMP, information about available support at MUNI, what are FAIR data principles and much more.

The event will be held in English. Please register for the workshop at
